What is a campus directory. Why is a campus directory important? Are there separable components? Does it stand alone or is it integrated with larger pieces such as security, authorization, and authentication? What are some of the directions campuses are going in? Can you outsource a directory? Should you? Data is the enabler - "It's the data, dummy!"- who gets their hands on the data?

Frank GreweFrank Grewe is a Manager in the Academic & Distributed Computing Services unit of the Office of Information Technology with the University of Minnesota. Mike LaHaye is a Manager in the University of Michigan Computing Environment unit of the Information Technology Division with the University of Michigan. He has been working with directory services since 1994. Mike led the centralized deployment of Novell Directory Services at the University of Michigan. More recently he has been involved in the ongoing migration of the campus LDAP service from an X.500 based service to Open LDAP.  Frank was one of our guest experts, along with Jeff Hodges of Stanford, at a session on Campus Directories in April of 1999.
