Douglas E. Van HouwelingOur Guest Expert this week, Douglas E. Van Houweling, is President and CEO of the University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID). Doug was named to the position on October 1, 1997. UCAID is a consortium of U.S. research universities, in collaboration with private and public sector partners, currently engaged in the Internet2 project to advance networking technology and applications for the research and education community. In this article from Educom Review, entitled Building the Internet's Future: Internet2, UCAID and NGI you can share his vision of Internet2 from about a year ago.

He is currently on leave from his post at the University of Michigan as Professor in the School of Information. Prior to undertaking his responsibilities at UCAID, Professor Van Houweling was Dean for Academic Outreach and Vice Provost for Information and Technology at the University of Michigan. As Dean for Academic Outreach, he was responsible for providing access to the University�s learning environment, research activities, and service programs unconstrained by space and time. As Vice Provost for Information and Technology, he was responsible for the University's strategic direction in the information technology arena. Professor Van Houweling also holds academic appointments in the University of Michigan Business School and in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts in the Department of Political Science.
