Welcome to the Middleware: Authentication, Authorization, and Directory Issues web page. This event was led by Ken Klingenstein. The session was at 4pm (EDT), on Wednesday June 3.

If you've missed the event, you can listen to the archived version.

Ken KlingensteinKen discussed strategies for dealing with developing the technologies and processes that provide the glue for a campus-wide applications architecture. Middleware provides security, identity, the ability to access information regardless of location, database access, campus permissions, and mass customization. Forces such as security, digital libraries and Internet2 have suddenly turned middleware from "We'll get around to those soon" to "We need to do something about these very soon" kinds of issues. What makes these issues particularly difficult is that the technologies are emerging and the processes are dependent on local campus environments.

Ken answered questions about strategic and tactical directions.
