Virginia Tech To Expand Web Presence

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (also known as Virginia Tech) is enhancing its Web presence in an effort to improve communications, offer new services, and provide autonomy to schools and departments at the university to create and reuse content. For the Web upgrade, Virginia Tech is deploying Percussion Software's Rhythmyx Web Content Management system.According to Percussion, Rhythmyx WCM is initially being deployed on VT's main site (linked below) and more than 650 active subdomains, which total about 1.1 million individual pages. "Eventually," according to Percussion, "hundreds of end user contributors will use Rhythmyx, with skill levels ranging from highly skilled programmers to those with only a basic understanding of the Web."
"Percussion's Rhythmyx WCM solution provides ease of use and the ability to quickly deliver information via multiple channels, including the Web, RSS feeds, podcasts, and XML data streams," said Greg Kroll, associate director of IT planning at Virginia Tech, in a statement released this week. "Rhythmyx also offers the power to service our extensive environment. It gives our various departments and schools the autonomy to control their own content and easily reuse that content in a variety of formats, while maintaining consistent branding for the university. This is one on the smoothest implementations I've been involved with in some time, thanks to Percussion's professional attitude and eagerness to get things done, coupled with the widespread and active involvement of our implementation team."
Virginia Tech, with its main campus in Blacksburg, VA, serves about 28,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
