Interactive Version of 'Holt Biology' Unveiled

Secondary education publisher Holt Rinehart and Winston (Atlanta, GA) has unveiled its Interactive Online Edition of Holt Biology, which includes various interactive features such as downloadable English and Spanish audio readings for replay on portable audio players, such as iPods.Based on the 2006 textbook from authors Rob DeSalle, Ph.D., curator of the American Museum of Natural History, and Mike Heithaus, Ph.D., host of the National Geographic Channel's "Everyday Explorer" and "Crittercam," the online version also substitutes the print volume's magazine-style design and visuals with dynamic online visuals. For instance, animated tutorials demonstrate biology concepts such as diffusion and osmosis.
Other features include highlighting, annotating, a multilingual glossary, scientific and graphing calculators, the periodic table, and student and teacher resources highlighted at point-of-use in each chapter.
To ensure students master key concepts, each chapter provides standardized test prep, quizzes and editable tests linked to state standards. Also, teachers can assign assessments via a management site, automatically grade them and track student and class progress reports. Instructors can access editable PDF worksheets, lab datasheets and lesson plans, as well.
"When we redesigned the Holt Biology Online Edition, we focused more intently than ever on the user experience. Our goal was to develop a next-generation online product that was not only easy to use but engaging and dynamic for both the teacher and student," said Holt President Allen Wheatcroft, in a prepared statement.
Available as a one- or six-year subscription, Hot Biology Online Edition can also be purchased with the hardcover textbook.
